UPDATE: Succop's agent announced on Twitter Monday that the kicker had signed with the Titans.

Ryan Succop, best known as Mr. Irrelevant, Class of 2009 -- and if you're a Steelers fan, honking that field goal against the Chargers late last season that kept Pittsburgh out of the playoffs -- was cut Saturday after spending five seasons in Kansas City.

But he won't be out of work long. Succup is nearing a deal with the Titans, a league source tells CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Succop would replace kicker Travis Coons, who initially made Tennessee's 53-man roster over Maikon Bonani.

Succop was the most accurate kicker in Chiefs history (119 of 147, 81 percent), and his departure has less to do with diminishing skills than money.

As TheMMQB.com's Peter King wrote Monday, Chiefs rookie free-agent kicker Cairo Santos will make $1.53 million over the next three years; Succop was scheduled to make $1.95 million this season.
