Knowshon Moreno starting for Broncos at running back on Sunday against Chiefs
According to the CBS Sports crew at the Broncos-Chiefs game, it's looking like Knowshon Moreno will start for Denver at running back.
When Willis McGahee was placed on injured reserve last week with an MCL injury, it was presumed rookie Ronnie Hillman would step into his role as the starting running back for the Broncos.
Not so fast, my friends: on Fantasy Football Today (we'll assume you know this, but you should be watching FFT every week), the CBS Sports crew at the Denver-Kansas City game is hearing that it's going to be Knowshon Moreno who gets the start for the committee of Broncos backs.
CBS crew at DEN/KC game says they're hearing Knowshon Moreno will get the start today. It'll be a committee approach. All RBs be in the mix— CBSFantasyFootball (@CBSFantasyFB) November 25, 2012
Moreno ran for 947 yards during his rookie season and 779 in his second year. But when John Fox took over in 2011, Moreno quickly fell out of favor.
He has spent most of this year in Fox's doghouse, playing in just two games and carrying only eight times for 15 yards and one touchdown.
But as we noted when McGahee went down, both Fox and John Elway named Moreno specifically when talking about who would fill the role at running back.
Expect all the guys to get carries this week. But it's becoming clear that Moreno, the first of Denver's two first-round draft picks in 2009, is going to get a shot at redeeming himself this season.
Perhaps the most important thing for the primary back in Denver -- if there even becomes one -- is pass protection. Keeping Peyton Manning upright is critical for the Broncos. If anyone starts blowing blocking opps, it'll probably cost them rushing attempts as well.
