Leslie Frazier: Vikings QB Christian Ponder will start vs. Packers

Three days after Christian Ponder was benched for looking a lot like, well, Christian Ponder, coach Leslie Frazier announced Tuesday that the third-year quarterback would be the Vikings' starter when the team takes the field Sunday against Green Bay.

"We are looking forward to him leading our team to victory, and other guys around him stepping up," Frazier said, presumably without laughing.

Frazier, who knew the decision would elicit blank stares and more questions, explained that Ponder would get the start because he's had some success against the Packers in the past.

Again, we can only assume that he wasn't stifling a giggle when those words left his mouth.

In related news: Josh Freeman, whom the team signed earlier this season and is paying $3 million, remains the backup behind Matt Cassel. So much for seeing if he's in the running for the Vikings' next franchise quarterback.
