Luke Kuechly wins 2013 Defensive Player of the Year

NEW YORK -- The NFL Honors got quite the stunner on Saturday night, when Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly was named the 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Kuechly was a surprise winner of sorts, though some did predict before the season that Kuechly would win.

After winning the 2012 Defensive Rookie of the Year, Kuechly followed up with another big season, recording four interceptions and helping to propel the Panthers into the playoffs.

Kuechly topped Robert Mathis, Richard Sherman and Vontaze Burfict to win the award.
