After the Rams cut Michael Sam on Saturday, the rest of the league's 31 squads had the opportunity to claim him off waivers.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, though, nobody did, meaning Sam is now a free agent and can sign with anybody, including the Rams if they want to place him on the practice squad.

However, according to the Associated Press, it's unlikely the Rams put him on the practice squad, as defensive line is their strongsuit. Sam was seen at the Rams facility Sunday, where he met with coaches, who postponed the face-to-face in order to allow Sam to attend Missouri's game Saturday.

After the news of his release broke Saturday, Sam took to Twitter to express confidence in his future.

Wrote Sam: "The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I've always known. The journey continues. I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to show I can play at this level. I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career."

And here's what Rams coach Jeff Fisher had to say about the man he drafted near the end of the seventh round.

"It was a football decision and it was no different than any other decision that we make," he said. "It was a football decision back in May to draft Mike. And once again, it's been all about football. I will tell you this: I was pulling for Mike. I really was. I don't say that very often, but Mike came in here and did everything that we asked him to do."
