Mike Munchak will be the Steelers new offensive line coach, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports, and the deal is expected to be finalized Wednesday night.

Munchak grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and played at Penn State before going onto a Hall of Fame career as an offensive lineman for the Houston Oilers. After his playing career ended in 1993, Munchak joined the Oilers (and later the Tennessee Titans) staff, working his way up from quality control coach to offensive line coach (where he served under Jeff Fisher for 14 seasons) to Titans head coach in 2011.

Munchak was fired earlier this month after he refused to make changes to his coaching staff. Tennessee went 7-9 in 2013, including a Week 1 win over the Steelers, and Munchak was 22-26 in three seasons.

In recent weeks, he had interviewed for the head-coaching positions in Detroit and Cleveland, as well as the offensive line job in Houston. The Lions hired Jim Caldwell, the Browns are, well, the Browns, and Munchak apparently preferred the Steelers' established situation over that of the rebuilding Texans.

Earlier this month, Pittsburgh fired offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. after just one season, partly because the offseason plans to implement a zone-blocking scheme never materialized. Some of that was due to center Maurkice Pouncey suffering a serious knee injury in Week 1. Still, despite a slow start that coincided with four consecutive losses, the Steelers' o-line played well down the stretch.

Now Munchak will be tasked with making zone-blocking a part of the Steelers' offense, something he had great success with during his time in Houston and Tennessee. Given how well Pittsburgh's line played the second half of the season -- and with Pouncey set to return -- the team isn't expected to draft an offensive lineman high in the 2014 NFL Draft.
