New Bills QB Kevin Kolb: I'm here to win a Super Bowl, period
At his introductory press conference on Monday, new Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb said his goal in Buffalo is to do what no other quarterback in team history has ever done with the Bills: win a Super Bowl.
No one can say Kevin Kolb doesn't set big goals.
At his introductory press conference on Monday, Kolb said one of his goals with the Bills is to do what no other quarterback in team history has ever done: bring a Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo.
It's a big goal, considering the Bills haven't made the playoffs since the 1999 season. However, Kolb sees that as an advantage, "It's good to come to an organization like this. They're hungry," Kolb said. "It'll be nice to come out and surprise some people."
Although Kolb's Super Bowl goal is admirable, here's the reality: Every quarterback who has tried to win a Super Bowl in Buffalo has failed. Jim Kelly came the closest, taking the team to four straight Super Bowls in the early 90's, but the Bills came back winless in all four trips.
If you take Kelly out of the equation, things get worse. Since the Hall of Famer's retirement following the 1996 season, the Bills have only made two playoff trips, where they've won zero games.

The Bills have had 11 different starting quarterbacks in the 16 seasons since Kelly's retirement and as you can see in the chart, only Doug Flutie has had a winning record. Kolb's career record is 9-12.
Kolb's bid to bring a Super Bowl title to Buffalo has at least one major obstacle: he's not even technically the team's starting quarterback yet. Despite signing Kolb to a two-year, $13 million deal, Bills general manager Buddy Nix didn't come out and say Kolb would definitely be the starter next season.
"He should be a strong candidate in the competition for the starting quarterback position," Nix said Monday.
To win the starting spot, Kolb will have to beat out former Seahawks and Vikings starter Tarvaris Jackson, undrafted free agent Aaron Corp and any other quarterback the Bills might decide to bring in.
