New uniforms give us a special glimpse of Backus' backside
When Nike released its new uniforms in April, the company's creative director of football told CBSSports.com's Will Brinson that Nike's overall approach was to make the material lighter. But Lions tackle Jeff Backus would like a word.
It’s not really a wardrobe malfunction, per se. It’s more of a wardrobe dysfunction. And Lions tackle Jeff Backus probably wants a word with the designer.
When Nike released its new uniforms in April, the company’s creative director of football told CBSSports.com’s Will Brinson that Nike’s overall approach was to make the material lighter. To do that, Nike eliminated some of the double-layered padding.
"Some of those materials that were two-layered -- like the existing over-the-shoulder panels were two layers and were nonstretch," Todd Van Horne told Brinson – who also apparently has trademarked the term Baby Got Backus. "So we thought if we could make it stretch material and make it a single layer and still have the same strength, why wouldn't we want to do that?"
And as for the backside of the pants? As Brinson wrote at the time, “fans will notice slightly-raised and indented thigh padding in addition to padding on the rear of the pants.”
Fans also are noticing something else from Backus' backside, thanks to this screen grab from The Postgame. Behold:
|Yes, we're seeing a little too much of Jeff Backus. (The Postgame)|
I don’t think all of this can be blamed on Nike (or on Backus’ sweaty behind, for that matter). Obviously, this is a huge misstep by the NFL in general. Like real life, it’s clear that players should NOT be wearing white after Labor Day.
