NFL credits Ben Roethlisberger with extra touchdown pass from Week 5
The NFL credited Ben Roethlisberger with an extra touchdown pass from Week 5's win over the Eagles. That ultimately changed the fate of many a fantasy football league.

The NFL's Week 5 came and went, and we're moving on to Week 6. But before we do, we should probably alert you to a change the NFL made, having credited Ben Roethlisberger with a touchdown pass that was previously ruled a Rashard Mendenhall run.
On a second-quarter score by the Steelers against the Eagles, it was initially ruled that Mendenhall ran in for a 13-yard touchdown on a pitch from Roethlisberger. (Watch the play in question here.) The league later ruled that it was indeed a forward pass from Roethlisberger and credited him with a 13-yard touchdown pass while giving Mendenhall a 13-yard touchdown reception.
No big deal, right? Um, unless you play fantasy football. Our crack fantasy stats team was kind enough to run a quick sample of 10,000 CBSSports.com leagues. It showed that, simply based on the Roethlisberger touchdown, more than 16 percent of leagues in that sample were affected.
Seven percent of the teams in the sample won as a result of the pass (and therefore seven percent lost), while another one percent went from losses to ties (and therefore another one percent went from ties to losses).
So, yeah, kind of a huge deal. Double-check your league.
This could also get interesting, too, should Roethlisberger continue having as strong a year as he has had. He's not getting mentioned in the conversation, but Roethlisberger is having an MVP-like season through four games. He has completed 65.8 percent of his passes, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt, 281 yards per game and has nine touchdowns against just one interception.
Should he keep putting up big numbers with the Steelers winning and get involved in the race late in the season, it would be interesting to see if that extra touchdown ended up pushing him over a certain milestone and improving his MVP standing.
For now, he'll just have to settle for helping you win your fantasy league last week.
