With the No. 138 overall pick in the fifth round, the Seattle Seahawks selected cornerback Tharold Simon out of LSU.

Simon made headlines earlier this week when he was arrested on Thursday night in his hometown of Eunice, La. and charged with alleged public intimidation, resisting an officer and unnecessary noise violation. Simon was released on bond, per TV station KATC in Lafayette, La. The incident took place one day before Eunice proclaimed Friday as "Tharold Simon Day."

The former Tigers' cornerback is vigorously contesting the charges. Peter Schaffer, Simon's agent, said his client is contemplating threatening legal action against the Eunice police department, NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora reported on Friday.

"I have obtained a written statement from almost 20 witnesses," Schaffer said, "all of whom corroborated Tharold's version of the incident, in which he did absolutely nothing wrong and nothing illegal. I'm 100 percent confident that there will be no charges filed and Tharold will be completely exonerated. I'm looking into the filing of a civil lawsuit against the officer and the Eunice Police Department. Tharold is an outstanding young man, and it's appalling to me that an officer would act this way, particularly at this time."

Simon (6-2, 202) led the Tigers with four interceptions last season, while adding 13 pass defenses. Simon's decision to enter the draft early was considered a bit of a surprise. Here's Rob Rang of scouting report on Simon:

Simon, Rang writes, is a "good-sized athlete with quick read/react skills. He has long arms and uses his reach to make plays on the ball."

The former LSU cornerback is "physical to work through blocks and seeks out contact," Rang adds. "He is a violent striker and plays with an aggressive mentality. He will bait and drive on throws and has natural ballskills with good highpointing skills and catching radius."
