NFL Week 1 betting and fantasy live updates: Latest odds and info on line moves, injuries and more

The first NFL Sunday of the season is upon us and with it comes a whopping nine divisional matchups on the day, with perhaps none bigger than the late afternoon battle between Drew Brees' Saints and Tom Brady's Buccaneers (yes, it still looks weird to us too). Rust could be a factor after the cancellation of the preseason, though it didn't seem to affect the defending champs on Thursday as the Chiefs easily dispatched the Texans 34-20. Also be on the lookout for potential injury factors as players see their first game action of the season.

We're here to track all the betting and fantasy angles you need to know heading up to and through kickoff of the Sunday slate, including line movements, injury updates, inactive lists, depth chart news, the buzz on the betting market, key information from our partners at William Hill Sportsbook and plenty more. After kickoff, consider this your text version of the Red Zone channel, where we track all the action around the league and how it affects your tickets and lineups.

Here's a look at the closing odds for the early slate:

Browns at Ravens (-7), O/U 47.5
Bears at Lions (-2.5), O/U 42.5
Jets at Bills (-6.5), O/U 39
Colts (-7) at Jaguars, O/U 44.5
Dolphins at Patriots (-7), O/U 41.5
Packers at Vikings (-1.5), O/U 44.5
Eagles (-5.5) at Washington, O/U 41.5
Seahawks at Falcons (-1), O/U 49.5
Raiders (-3) at Panthers, O/U 48

And here's the odds for the later matchups as of 4:20 p.m. ET:

Chargers (-3) at Bengals, O/U 41
Cardinals at 49ers (-6.5), O/U 48.5
Buccaneers at Saints (-4), O/U 48

Line rises for Saints

The Bucs-Saints line has been stuck at Saints -3.5 for seemingly forever, but it's finally budged minutes before kickoff. The Saints are now four-point favorites for the matchup, and plenty of action has come on the Over as well, with the total bumping up a full point to 48.5. The Cardinals-49ers total also jumped a half-point to 48.5, with bettors perhaps reacting to the offensive explosion we're seeing in the early slate.

Cowboys line continues to drop

Long three-point favorites for the first Sunday Night Football matchup of the season, the Cowboys have seen their odds drop as sharp bettors line up to take the Rams. The latest move has the Cowboys as only one-point favorites in the first game in SoFi Stadium. Clearly, it's expected to be anyone's game tonight in Los Angeles.

Edit: That wasn't the last line drop, as the SNF game is now a pick 'em as of 4:10 p.m. ET.

Nail-biter in Foxborough

The Patriots hold a comfortable 21-11 lead against the Dolphins with two minutes left in the game, but anyone who took the favorite will have to sweat the end game, as Miami has a first down on the New England 14-yard line. A touchdown here gives the Dolphins the cover.

Edit: A Ryan Fitzpatrick interception should seal the cover for Pats bettors.

McCaffrey TD pushes Raiders-Panthers over

Pete Prisco expected plenty of points in Raiders-Panthers, making it one of his best bets on the Pick Six Podcast, and he has been proven right. Christian McCaffrey just scored his second rushing touchdown of the day to cut Carolina's deficit to 27-22, pushing the game total over 48. Now the Panthers will be eyeing an upset victory over the final 12 minutes and change.

Buccaneers inactives: Evans good to go

Inactives: QB Ryan Griffin, WR Tyler Johnson, WR Cyril Grayson, G Aaron Stinnie, DL Khalil Davis, OLB Cam Gill, CB Parnell Motley

The big news for the Bucs is that Tom Brady will have Mike Evans in the lineup after the receiver was initially ruled doubtful on Friday. A Saturday upgrade to questionable suggested he would likely be able to play today, and that appears to be the case after he avoided the inactive list.

Saints inactives: Davenport, Ruiz sidelined

Inactives: WR Marquez Callaway, DB P.J. Williams, C/G Cesar Ruiz, LB Zack Baun, DE Marcus Davenport, DT Shy Tuttle

Davenport and Ruiz were previously ruled out, but that gives the Saints a key absence on both sides of the ball.

Cardinals inactives: No surprises

Inactives: RB Eno Benjamin, QB Brett Hundley, OL Josh Jones, OL Josh Miles, S Deionte Thompson

Josh Jones, who could be in the mix at right tackle when healthy, was ruled out earlier this week, so there's no unexpected moves here for the Cardinals. With Benjamin inactive, Arizona is going with Chase Edmonds and D.J. Foster behind Kenyan Drake at running back.

49ers inactives: Aiyuk sits

Inactives: QB C.J. Beathard, WR Brandon Aiyuk, OL Ben Garland, DL Kentavius Street, LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, CB Jason Verett

Aiyuk's hamstring strain ultimately keeps the rookie from making his NFL debut in Week 1 and leaves the 49ers without multiple key receivers for their matchup against the Cardinals after Deebo Samuel was placed on the IR Saturday. The 49ers will have to lean on Kendrick Bourne, Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor and Richie James at receiver.

Bengals inactives: No Geno

Inactives: DT Geno Atkins, S Shawn Williams, LB Markus Bailey, CB Torry McTyer, CB LeShaun Sims, RB Trayveon Williams, G Shaq Calhoun

Atkins would have had a great matchup on the table with two key Chargers O-linemen out had he not been ruled out with a shoulder injury earlier in the week. Mike Daniels should see more work inside next to D.J. Reader.

Chargers inactives: Williams good to go

Inactives: WR Jason Moore, CB Tevaughn Campbell, C Mike Pouncey, G Trai Turner, OT Storm Norton, TE Donald Parham Jr., DT Cortez Broughton

Mike Williams is active after suffering no setbacks in warm-ups, and he has a great fantasy matchup against the Bengals secondary. However, L.A. will be without two key starters on the O-line in Pouncey and Turner, which could make blocking an issue against an upgraded Cincinnati D-line.

Cam scores twice on ground in Pats debut

The Dolphins-Patriots game is the first one out of halftime, and Cam Newton is back to doing work on the ground, adding an 11-yard rushing touchdown to his ledger. That's his second touchdown on the ground on the day, which could be a preview of things to come for the Patriots offense this season. New England is up 14-3 and 11.5-point favorites on the live line.

Rodgers dices up Vikes late in first half

A defensive, back-and-forth game between the Packers and Vikings took a turn late in the first half, with Aaron Rodgers completing a beautiful touchdown to Davante Adams on a deep throw that was upheld on review. After Kirk Cousins got the ball left with 39 seconds left and subsequently threw an interception, Rodgers hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a TD on another deep ball. The Vikings were able to tack on a field goal before intermission, where the Packers own a 22-10 lead. The live line for the matchup sits at Packers -7.5 at the half.

Packers turn on heat before halftime

After a back-and-forth defensive battle had the Packers up 8-7 late in the first half, Aaron Rodgers showed off his arm with a gorgeous touchdown to Davante Adams, giving the road team an apparent 15-7 lead at halftime. But Kirk Cousins threw an interception on the next possession, setting Green Bay up to score again before the break.

Eagles rolling vs. Football Team

The best you can say about Washington today is that they are in fact a Football Team, but one that's not putting up much resistance against the Eagles, who have opened up a 17-0 lead in the first half. Carson Wentz is 12 for 15 for 174 yards and two TDs as the Eagles have focused on beating Washington through the air. The live line sits at Eagles -17.5.

Bills routing Jets

The route is on in Buffalo, where the Bills have opened up a 21-0 lead in the first half after closing as 6.5-point favorites. The Jets defense looks like one to target in fantasy matchups all season as Josh Allen has opened the game 16 for 20 with 143 yards and two TDs through the air, plus 46 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. The Bills are -22.5 on the live line.

Raiders lose key O-lineman

Raiders offensive tackle Trent Brown is done for the day after suffering a calf injury. The Raiders placed two offensive lineman on their inactive list, including tackle Brandon Parker, so they'll be shorthanded for the rest of the day while trying to overcome Brown's absence.

Panthers answer Raiders score

Anyone who took the Over in the Raiders-Panthers matchup will love to see the two teams trade touchdowns before the end of the first quarter. After Christian McCaffrey's TD gave the Panthers a 9-7 lead (with a missed extra point), the live total is up to 54.5.

Ravens rolling

The Ravens are making short work of the division-rival Browns early, opening up a 10-point lead in the first quarter. That quick flurry of points has the Ravens at -16.5 on the live line.

Bettors fading Cowboys for SNF

We noted in our look at the ticket/money splits earlier that the Cowboys had the majority of the tickets but the Rams had a majority of the money for Sunday Night Football. It appears sharp action continues to come in on the Rams, as the Cowboys are now down to just 1.5-point favorites. Bettors are identifying the Rams as a great value after an offseason where they've been largely forgotten in the NFC West.

Eagles march down the field

The Eagles shook off all their injuries on offense to fire an early TD to Zach Ertz, putting them up 7-0 early. The live line after the TD is Eagles -11.5.

Colts strike first

The Colts have no issue getting on the board, with Nyheim Hines scoring on an impressive run. If the Jaguars can't respond on the next drive, anyone who backed the Colts despite the large spread will be feeling excellent in the early moments. Colts are 12.5-point favorites on the live line after the TD.

Jets-Bills total drops in final minutes before kick

The lowest total on the board is getting even lower, as the over/under for Jets-Bills dropped to 39 with a few minutes left before kick. These two teams met in the opener last year, a game the Bills won 17-16 that also featured a defensive TD on the Jets' side. Bettors are expecting points to be at a premium again here.

Bears take some heat ahead of kickoff

Bettors are finally look to buy back on the Bears after the Lions moved from 1.5-point favorites all the way up to -3 during the week. We saw a line of Lions -2.5 this morning, but more action on the Bears has pushed this line to Lions -2 just ahead of kickoff. Bettors are not balking at the prospect of backing Mitchell Trubisky on the road in Week 1.

Edit: Well, that didn't take long. The line bounces right back to Lions -2.5 with just minutes left until kickoff.

Packers continue to steam toward pick

After settling at Vikings -2.5 this week, the Packers-Vikings line has continued to steam toward the road team through Sunday, and Green Bay now finds itself as only one-point underdogs in the matchup. There's about 10 minutes left until kickoff to see if the line can get all the way down to a pick 'em, but for now it's Vikings -1 at William Hill Sportsbook.

Edit: Vikings -1 seemed to be the breaking point for sharp bettors, as the game was bet right back to Vikings -1.5 with minutes left until kickoff.

Falcons back to -1

The Falcons-Seattle line has been pretty active leading up to the Week 1 opener. The Seahawks went as high as 2.5-point favorites this week, Atlanta was then the one-point favorite and the game recently swung to a coin flip earlier on Sunday morning. Now, with nearly 15 minutes to kickoff, the Falcons are back to being looked at as the favorite at -1. Meanwhile, the O/U total has risen a half-point to 49.5.

PHI-WAS total drops as expected

Bettors snapped up the Under on 42 in the Eagles-Washington matchup with Philadelphia's plethora of injuries on the offensive side, and now the over/under has dropped to 41.5. It wouldn't be a surprise to see another half-point dip before kickoff, as 41 is a key number for totals (think of final scores like 24-17, 21-20, 27-14, etc).

Never too early for Week 2

Many sportsbooks allow you to bet their lookahead lines for Week 2, and that can give forward-thinking bettors a way to get a great number that won't be available when those lines repost on Sunday night. I'd expect the Steelers to move up from -6 after both Monday night games are in the book and possibly even on Sunday night. This also might be bettors' last chance to get Colts at less than 3, as they're currently 2.5-point favorites at -120 for their home matchup against Minnesota, a team getting faded hard on Sunday in their Week 1 matchup.

Browns gain half-point as kickoff approaches

Cleveland moved up a half-point to give them a +7 advantage over the Ravens. The Browns secondary comes into this opener hobbled as corners Kevin Johnson and Greedy Williams have both been ruled out, opening the door for Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore offense to have smooth sailing through the air.
