No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan signs rookie contract with Miami
On Friday, Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan said he would sign his contract in time for training camp. On Saturday, he did just that.
Turns out Dolphins first-round pick Dion Jordan keeps his word. A day after proclaiming he would sign a contract by the time Miami reports for training camp Saturday, the team announced Saturday afternoon the deal had been finalized.
This is what Jordan, a defensive end taken No. 3 overall, told the Miami Herald on Friday: “[The contract is] not finalized yet, but I'll be there.”
And now he will.
Reportedly, the biggest negotiation between the two sides was over offset language and whether the team would have to pay Jordan if it cut him before the end of his rookie contract and he signed with another team.
In the past two seasons, Miami has been vigilant about making sure the contracts for its top draft picks include offset language. According to Foxsports.com, Miami got that concession from Jordan in exchange for paying his signing bonus on a quicker timeline.
