Packers put Seneca Wallace on IR, make Matt Flynn signing official
The Packers made the signing of Matt Flynn official on Tuesday and made room for Flynn by putting Seneca Wallace on injured reserve.
It's been a whirlwind week for Green Bay quarterback Seneca Wallace. On Sunday, Wallace made his first NFL start since 2011, but he only lasted one series before suffering a groin injury, a groin injury that's going to cost him the rest of the season. The Packers placed Wallace on injured reserve on Tuesday, officially ending his year.
The Packers signed Wallace in September to backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Before 2013, being Rodgers' backup involved a lot clipboard carrying and not a lot of actual playing time. From 2008 to 2012, Rodgers only missed one start due to injury.
However, Rodgers went down with a fractured collarbone against the Bears in Week 9, forcing Wallace into the spotlight. Wallace threw for 114 yards in just over three quarters of action against the Bears.
Wallace then started on Sunday against the Eagles and was 5 of 5 for 25 yards before leaving the game with the groin injury. With Wallace out, the Packers added Matt Flynn to the roster. Flynn's signing became official on Tuesday. Flynn, who started his career in Green Bay in 2008, has played for several teams since leaving the Packers after the 2011 season.
Among those teams are Oakland and Seattle, where Flynn made a total of $14.5 million over two seasons for one start. Flynn also briefly played for the Bills.
