Packers QB Scott Tolzien will start in Week 11 vs. Giants
Mike McCarthy liked that he saw in quarterback Scott Tolzien on Sunday. After Green Bay's 27-13 loss to Philadelphia, McCarthy named Tolzien the team's starting quarterback for Week 11.
The Packers third-string quarterback will be the Packers first-string quarterback in Week 11. After Green Bay's 27-13 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday, coach Mike McCarthy announced that Scott Tolzien would be the Packers starting quarterback when Green Bay plays in New York against the Giants next week.
When the month of November started, Tolzien was the Packers third-string quarterback and relegated to the practice squad. However, after Aaron Rodgers fractured his collarbone in Week 9, Tolzien was promoted from the practice squad to the active-roster.
Seneca Wallace was the Packers starter against the Eagles on Sunday, but Wallace went down with a groin injury in the first quarter paving the way for Tolzien to enter the game. In just over three quarters of action, Tolzien completed 24 of 39 passes for 280 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. It was Tolzien's first time playing in a regular season game in his three-year career.
"I thought Scott Tolzien played as well as can be expected," McCarthy said. "He'll start against the Giants."
A good game against New York could earn Tolzien a second career start. Right now, Rodgers is week-to-week, but the ninth-year quarterback isn't expected back until Thanksgiving at the earliest.
