Simonson was waived last week to make room for Lou Young, who was released yesterday to bring in tight end Chris Manhertz. Simonson played in the Panthers' first five games, but saw limited snaps and didn't make a catch.

Manhertz and Simonson are both seen as blocking tight ends.

Edwards played in five games and recorded his first sack against the Vikings in Week 3. His one sack was more than starting defensive ends Charles Johnson and Kony Ealy tallied this season.

The Panthers now have four tight ends on the roster and four defensive ends.
