For the second straight offseason, Julian Edelman has re-upped with the Patriots. The two sides agreed to terms Saturday, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. And as often happens, Edelman took to Twitter to confirm the news:

Edelman was Tom Brady's favorite target in 2013, catching 105 passes (nearly double the next closest receiver) for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned 35 punts last season, averaging 10.7 yards a return.

According to Football Outsiders, Edelman ranked 23rd in total value among all NFL wideouts, one spot behind Wes Welker, who left the Pats for the Broncos last offseason.

Before reuniting with Edelman, the Patriots spent the first week of free agency bolstering the secondary. First they signed cornerback Darrelle Revis and then added Brandon Browner.

And while the wide receiver position was an issue for this offense last season, the team is hoping Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins can improve on their rookie efforts, and that Danny Amendola, who was signed last offseason, can stay healthy. And there's always the draft, where the wide receiver class is considered one of the deepest in decades.
