Photo behind DeSean Jackson signing has wonderful backstory
A Redskins photo behind DeSean Jackson that was tweeted out on Wednesday has a wonderful backstory.
When the Redskins announced Wednesday they signed DeSean Jackson, they tweeted out the news and included a picture of Jackson signing his contract. Seeing him decked out in Redskins gear was weird enough, but the picture behind him caught everyone's eye.
I zoomed in on it and noticed it looked like soldiers with one of them draped in a Redskins blanket.
Turns out, that's exactly the case. And there's a really, really cool story behind it as some Twitter followers pointed out.
The Unknown Soldier Blog points out that it was taken by Corporal Reece Lodder in Afghanistan and is of several marines sleeping, including one in question from North Carolina who is, obviously, a Redskins fan.
According to Cpl. Lodder's caption, the dog in the photo, Blue, detects improvised explosive devices. Blue is protecting his handler, Marine Lance Cpl. Jarrett Hatley, 21, of Millingport, North Carolina, as he takes a quick nap (covered by a Washington Redskins blanket) after helping Afghan National Army soldiers clear compounds in the central Helmand River Valley, a volatile area rife with threats from insurgents and terrorists.
For those unaware, before the Panthers existed, many people in North Carolina were Redskins fans. It's no surprise that Lance Corporal Hatley is a Skins fan.
It's a striking photograph with an even more striking story.
