A day after Gus Edwards suffered a season-ending torn ACL in practice, the Ravens reached an agreement on a one-year deal with former Saints running back Latavius Murray, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move comes three days after the Saints released Murray, a 2015 Pro Bowler who rushed for 656 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Murray joins a revamped Ravens backfield that also includes Devonta Freeman and Le'Veon Bell, who were signed to the practice squad earlier this week. Both players were signed after running backs J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill suffered season-ending injuries. Dobbins, who was expected to carry the load after an impressive rookie season, tore his ACL on Aug. 28. Hill tore his Achilles on Sept. 2.

Ty'Son Williams is slated to start at running back for the Ravens' Week 1 matchup against the Raiders. Williams, a second-year player who rushed for 1,120 yards and eight touchdowns during his college career, has yet to receive a carry in an NFL regular season game. He rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries during the preseason.

A sixth-round pick in the 2013 draft, Murray rushed for 4,991 yards and 43 touchdowns during his first seven active seasons in the NFL. His best season took place in 2015, when he rushed for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns as a member of the Raiders. After four years in Oakland, Murray spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the Vikings, where he rushed for 1,420 yards and 14 touchdowns. He spent the past two seasons sharing a backfield in New Orleans with Alvin Kamara, rushing for 1,293 yards and nine touchdowns while helping the Saints win back-to-back NFC South division titles.

Murray is one of four former 1,000-yard rushers currently on the Ravens. The other three are Bell, Freeman and quarterback Lamar Jackson, who last season became the NFL's first quarterback to post multiple 1,000-yard rushing campaigns.
