RB Brandon Jacobs says 49ers were 'scared' to let him go

Late last season, the 49ers waived running back Brandon Jacobs after one forgettable season in San Francisco that included a three-game suspension.

On Wednesday, Jacobs signed a one-year deal with the Giants, where he played from 2005-2011 and won two Super Bowls. Jacobs concedes that his one year in the Bay Area was a "curse" but adds that the 49ers didn't want to let him go because they might have to face him again.

“I didn’t think I was done because they didn’t want to release me,” Jacobs said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. “I was told point-blank, ‘Do I look like a fool? I release you and you’ll be with somebody else and come back and play against us? I felt good about it.

“I’m like, ‘I see, y’all are scared of me. It’s cool. I’m alright.”

Things couldn't have gone much worse with the 49ers, Last November, Jacobs tweeted, "Never work in a place where you hate your boss so much, you should always be happy at work.#YouLiveAndYouLearn" and "Have you ever been in a spot and you wonder why are you there."

And a month later, he tweeted this: "I don't understand why people are angry at me because I wanna do what I am paid to do, I am a competitive person, I think people should be mad if I didn't wanna play, but I forgot the people that's pissed they don't have a athletic bone and their body."

Still Jacobs agrees with Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who said this week that the running back was humbled by the experience.

“That is accurate,” Jacobs admitted. “It takes people to go through things and learn and be better. I’m happy I went through that.”

Unfortunately for Jacobs -- and lucky for the 49ers (at least to hear Jacobs tell it) -- San Francisco isn't on the Giants' regular-season schedule.
