After four-years of playing behind the best running back in football, Toby Gerhart has decided it's time to move on. The former Vikings running back agreed to terms on a three-year, $10.5 million contract with Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Gerhart's deal includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has reported.
In Gerhart, the Jaguars are getting a running back with experience, but not a lot of mileage. In four NFL seasons, Gerhart has only carried the ball 276 times. To put that in perspective, there were nine NFL running backs who carried the ball at least 276 times just during the 2013 season.
During his four seasons backing up Adrian Peterson in Minnesota, Gerhart averaged 4.7 yards per carry and scored a total of five touchdowns. The Vikings selected Gerhart in the second-round of the 2010 NFL Draft after the former Stanford running back finished No. 2 in the 2009 Heisman vote.
With Gerhart now a Jaguar, that likely means Maurice Jones-Drew's career in Jacksonville is over. A running back who definitely won't be back in Jacksonville is Justin Forsett, who was cut by the Jaguars on Tuesday.
