Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested on Monday in Alabama, according to CBS-42 in Birmingham. The third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dareus was arrested in Cleburne County around 10 p.m. and later released after posting a $3,000 bail. According to AL.com, police found synthetic cannabis on Dareus after pulling him over for speeding.
The arrest comes less than two weeks after the Bills exercised the $8.06 million, fifth-year option for their 24-year-old defensive tackle.
Dareus made the Pro Bowl last season for the first time in his three-year career after totaling 7.5 sacks. The former University of Alabama standout was the defensive MVP of the 2010 BCS Championship game when the Crimson Tide beat Texas 37-21.
