Report: Bruno Mars to be Super Bowl halftime entertainment
Pop singer Bruno Mars reportedly will get one of the biggest gigs of his life -- performing during halftime of the Super Bowl.
Bruno Mars is expected to be named the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLVIII, the Los Angeles Times is reporting.
Nobody has commented on the report, though an NFL spokesman joked to the paper that Janet Jackson and Miley Cyrus already had been eliminated from consideration.
For those unfamiliar with Mars, the Times wrote, “A consummate performer, the singer-songwriter effortlessly harnesses the old school pizazz of James Brown, Prince and Elvis, who he cut his teeth impersonating as a kid, with a shimmering pop lilt that makes him an undeniable live force.”
Since I don’t know Mars’ music, I’ll reserve my opinion about this reported pick (for the record, in the Super Bowls I’ve attended, I hated the Black Eyed Peas, was disappointed in Madonna’s performance and enjoyed Beyonce last year. And I’ll just let this slip: my favorite halftime performance I’ve seen live was the Doobie Brothers at the Orange Bowl a few years ago).
Either way, I remember being somewhat impressed with Mars when he hosted SNL this past season.
I have hope for, at the very least, a solid halftime show.
