Report: Giants sign RB Peyton Hillis
With only two healthy running backs on the roster, the Giants are turning to retread Peyton Hillis.
But he’ll still be out for at least three weeks, and considering Brandon Jacobs is now the Giants featured back, the team has decided it needs another running back retread to play alongside him.
Thus, the team has signed Peyton Hills, via the NY Daily News.
Hillis has gotten plenty of life after his one good season with the Browns in 2010 when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns (and made the cursed Madden cover). He had plenty of problems in 2011 in Cleveland, where teammates questioned his commitment as he tried to get a big-money contract, and he averaged 3.6 yards per carry last season in Kansas City.
He was with the Buccaneers early this season, but he suffered a knee injury and was waived last month after not appearing in a regular-season game.
On Tuesday, Hillis worked out for the Giants along with four other running backs (including Ryan Torain and D.J. Ware), and apparently, he impressed the coaching staff enough to land a job.
Aside from Jacobs, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 but who’s battling a hamstring injury, the only other running back on the roster is seventh-round pick Michael Cox. The team also released injured Da’Rel Scott earlier this week.
And this is why Tyrod Taylor is now the Bills' starting quarterback again
