Report: Redskins' Kyle Shanahan meeting RG3 a 'couple times' pre-draft

When the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft rolls around, everyone expects the Redskins to draft Robert Griffin III. Based on our six mock drafts, it's really a formality.

The Redskins apparently believe that too, as, according to Chick Hernandez of CSN Washington, they're sending Kyle Shanahan to meet with Griffin "couple times each week" leading up to the draft to begin getting him acclimated to the offense.
This might seem a bit shady at first, but it's not: there's nothing in the CBA rules to prevent the Redskins from meeting with their first draft pick.

“There is no issue,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Albert Breer of the NFL Network. “College-eligible players can be timed, tested and interviewed in their hometown or college town. And it can be done on more than one occasion. It is standard procedure. All clubs do it.”

It's just that you almost never know who the first pick will be unless you actually have the top-overall pick.

In this case, it appears to be a simple formality of the Colts taking Andrew Luck first overall to get Griffin to Washington.

Jim Irsay said recently that the Colts are still "in the evaluation process" when it came to their number one pick. However, the common belief is that they're going with Luck and they're not looking back.

There's even some belief -- including from Luck's quarterback coach -- that getting too cute with the pick will cause the Colts to regret it "for years."

On the other hand, there's very little belief that Griffin won't be good in Washington. I believe he'll be better than Luck in 2012; Donovan McNabb probably feels differently.

And him getting a headstart on learning the Skins offense only serves to back up that opinion.
