One of the hallmarks of the Jets defense under Rex Ryan is a shutdown press corner. First there was Darrelle Revis, then there was Antonio Cromartie, and now, well, there isn't one. The Jets had a shot at landing Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie but the Giants stole him on a five-year deal Monday afternoon.

According to a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, that didn't make Rex Ryan happy.

"Sources close to Ryan admitted that he wasn’t pleased at all that the Jets couldn’t land DRC," Mehta writes.

Specifically, Ryan isn't happy with GM John Idzik. Mehta's column details concerns around the league and inside the Jets with Idzik's approach to free agency, with one source telling Mehta that Idzik "operates on his own time and schedule" and another saying Idzik works at "glacial speed."

Mehta also reports that the Jets missed out on free agent Vontae Davis due to the GM's "lack of flexibility in negotiations" and weren't in on the Darrelle Revis sweepstakes because Idzik "wasn't interested" in bringing Revis back to the Jets.

"People across the league describe him as a stubborn negotiator who has difficulty finalizing deals," Mehta writes of Idzik.

Whether or not Idzik's pace is a problem remains to be seen for New York. Oftentimes patience is prudent, particularly in the free agent market.

But the cornerback position is a problem for the Jets, at least as things stand. They have Dee Milliner (one of their two first-round picks from 2013) and Kyle Wilson (a bust of a first-round pick thus far) but neither of those guys is Revis or Cromartie.

Idzik did spend big at the wideout position, landing former Broncos receiver Eric Decker (thought to be the top option in a down wideout market).

And Rex has coached up a defense before so it's possible this all looks silly when the season rolls around. But at the moment, there's concern over the Jets and their cornerback situation. It seems reasonably justified.
