The NFL is preparing to investigate Jets owner Woody Johnson for comments made about Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis during a press conference last week, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Tampering charges have been filed against Johnson and the league is trying to determine whether or not a violation occurred.

"I'd love for Darrelle to come back," Johnson said at the press conference. According to the NFL's tampering policy, "Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of the Anti-Tampering Policy."

Revis is under contract with New England through 2015, but has a base salary of $20 million for next season.
