RGIII understandably wants to be the one to cash in on his name. (Gatorade)

Robert Griffin III will be, no question, the Redskins starting quarterback when the team enters training camp, but before all that, the former Baylor star is trying to get a jump on his competition. Oh, not necessarily by working out extra hard or studying the playbook extra long.

No, I mean, in the fight to trademark and protect what will be a huge brand if he becomes one of the next big NFL stars.

As changelegal.com points out, Griffin has created his own company called Thr3escompany, LLC while applying for patents for four trademarks -- RGIII, RG3, Robert Griffin III and Unbelievably Believable.

Unbelievably Believable? What is that?

Watch this from CBS News.

The RGIII, RG3,  and Robert Griffin III filings were made to the U.S. Patent and Trade Office for “shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pants, shorts, footwear, hats, caps, athletic uniforms” (and thankfully not for “somewhat-informative blog posts”), but the Unbelievably Believable filing is for “promoting the goods and services of others, sponsorship of sports and athletic events and activities.”

Obviously, it’s a smart (and well-rounded) move by Griffin to get this taken care of before he (possibly) becomes one of the biggest names in the league. Because if anybody should be making money off his own name, it’s the man who actually lives with it every day.
