Roger Goodell says he hasn't checked Super Bowl Sunday forecast
Roger Goodell says he hasn't checked a forecast for Super Bowl Sunday yet.
The Broncos-Seahawks matchup aside, the one thing everyone's talking about in relation to Super Bowl XLVIII is the weather. Snow is absolutely a factor and there will be plenty of forecasts bandied about in the coming days.
But Roger Goodell won't be checking them. Or at least that's what he says. Goodell, who plans on braving the elements and sitting outdoors for the 2014 Super Bowl, accurately pointed out the inaccuracies of weather forecasting.
“One is, I’m not sure how reliable forecasts are this far out,” Goodell said. “And two is, we have a whole group of people that are getting the best information, have the right team together, to make sure we have appropriate information at the right time. There’s nothing I can do about that. Our team has been working to be prepared for all alternatives and I’m confident they will be."
There's no way Goodell's not looking at any forecasts leading up to the game. The weather matters too much when it comes to how this game is pulled off to completely ignore.
But the commish is absolutely correct in the fact that he "can't control" Mother Nature.
“I can’t control weather. We don’t control weather,” Goodell said. “We made the decision that football is played in the elements and so we recognize that and we made a decision to do that. Championship games are often played in inclement weather. We had several games that were played in inclement weather, including playoff games this year. That’s football.”
It's a smart PR strategy, to embrace whatever gets thrown the league's way. Acting scared of snow or rain or a little ol' blizzard will only crank up the hype around the Super Bowl weather.
Besides, everything is out of Goodell's control at this point anyway.
