Seahawks CB Brandon Browner suspended four games by NFL

Seattle cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner allege they didn't do anything to warrant their respective four-game suspensions for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy, and promised to fight said suspensions.

But Browner apparently either lost or dropped his appeal and is going to serve his suspension over the final four regular-season games of the year, the league announced Wednesday.

"Brandon Browner of the Seattle Seahawks has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances," the NFL said in a statement. "Browner's suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to return to the Seahawks' active roster on Monday, December 31, following the team's final regular season game on December 30 against the St. Louis Rams.

"Browner is eligible to participate in all playoff games."

Sherman's appeal is set for next week, which means he'll play this weekend against Arizona. (Incidentally, the line on this game moved only from Seattle -10.5 to Seattle -10. This either means that Vegas thinks Browner is worth a half a point ... or Vegas agrees with everyone else that the Cardinals are just terrible in general.)

Browner's suspension is a pretty big hit, obviously. And losing Sherman for any length of time would be a major blow as well. But what's interesting about this first suspension is that Browner will be back for the playoffs. Seattle has very good odds (Football Outsiders estimates over 87 percent) of making the postseason. They'd love to win the NFC West or try to jockey for seeding in the postseason, and having Browner would help in that regard.

But having him back for the postseason is far more important.

Seattle signed cornerback Ron Parker from the Panthers practice squad in order to fill his spot.
