Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls, who was filling in admirably -- and then some -- for injured starter Marshawn Lynch, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken ankle during the first quarter of Seattle's blowout win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Rawls, who came into the game leading the NFL in yards per carry, was off to a great start once again (six carries for 44 yards) before getting rolled up by a Ravens defensive lineman in the backfield. With Lynch still on the mend from hernia surgery, DuJuan Harris and Fred Jackson filled in for Rawls the rest of the way. Neither one impressed all that much (they combined for 25 carries for 57 yards), but it didn't really matter because Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, and Tyler Lockett were too busy tearing up the Baltimore secondary through the air.

Rawls going down is a big blow for the Seahawks, who are really rolling right now. They've won four straight games by a combined score of 141-56 after losing to the Cardinals back in Week 10 and Rawls (76 carries for 435 yards and three TDs in that span) was a huge part of it. Now that's gone.

Seattle is currently sitting in the top NFC wild-card spot by virtue of owning the tiebreaker over the Minnesota Vikings, and unless the Cardinals stumble, that seems likely to be the spot where Seattle finishes. They just have to take care of business the rest of the way against the Browns, Rams, and Cardinals over the final three weeks of the season.

The Thomas Rawls ride has come to an end. (USATSI)
