NEW YORK -- Sheldon Richardson had a massive season for the Jets in 2013 and the NFL rewarded him with a big ole trophy as the 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Richardson, one of the Jets two first-round picks, helped the Jets dominate up front on defense and paired extremely well with Muhammad Wilkerson

The Jets rookie (who also won the Defensive Rookie of the Year) ended up compiling 3.5 sacks and 77 total tackles.

Richardson was drafted with the pick the Jets received from the Buccaneers when New York traded away Darrelle Revis

He beat out the Bills Kiko Alonso, the Panthers Star Lotulelei and the Cardinals Tyrann Mathieu for the award.

"I was surprised," Richardson said. "It was a toss-up to me. It was a tight race."

Richardson was also featured as a goal line back in the Jets offense at times, rushing four different times and scoring a pair of touchdowns in 2013. But he didn't expect to win Offensive Player of the Year.

"Nah," Richardson said when asked if he expected offensive votes. "Eddie Lacy had more touchdowns than me."
