With the Steelers still in the process of nailing down what should be a solid, albeit young, starting offensive line, they’ve just lost perhaps the most important piece of that puzzle.

In the first quarter, Pittsburgh guard David DeCastro accidently dove into Maurkice Pouncey’s leg as he was engaged with a defender, and Pouncey had to be carted off the field with a knee injury. And he’s not coming back.

Obviously, that’s bad news for Pittsburgh, which is also counting on second-year players like Mike Adams at left tackle and DeCastro at right guard with third-year tackle Marcus Gilbert on the right side.

The team didn’t dress out a dedicated backup center. Instead, Kelvin Beachum is the first backup at every offensive line position -- colleague Ryan Wilson points out that Beachum has been playing tight end (!), as well -- and now, he’s taken over Pouncey’s spot for the rest of the game.
