Steelers sign WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to one-year deal
The Pittsburgh Steelers added former first-round pick Darrius Heyward-Bey on Wednesday. The Raiders took DHB with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
The Steelers are slowly adding weapons to Ben Roethlisberger's offensive arsenal, but that's only if you consider Darrius Heyward-Bey a weapon. The former Raiders and Colts receiver signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on Wednesday, the team announced.
Heyward-Bey played in all 16 games for the Colts last season and caught 29 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown. Heyward-Bey spent the 2013 in Indianapolis after spending the first four seasons of his career in Oakland.
Heyward-Bey's best season with the Raiders came in 2011 when he caught 64 passes for 975 yards.
The additions of Moore and Heyward-Bey should mean that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won't have to throw all of his passes in in 2014 to Antonio Brown.
The Steelers were in need of receivers after Jerricho Cotchery and Emmanuel Sanders -- two of Pittsburgh's three leading receivers from last season -- signed on with new teams this offseason. Cotchery landed in Carolina and Sanders signed with the Broncos.
