When you think about the Tennessee Titans' offense, quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver A.J. Brown are probably the players that come to mind first. All three played major roles as the Titans won two postseason games for the first time since the 1999 season, and made it all the way to the AFC Championship game before being defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs. All three players will be back in the two-tone blue next season, but there's another weapon who may help take the Titans' offense to a new level in 2020: tight end Jonnu Smith.

In his third season with the Titans, Smith put up career numbers across the board, hauling in 35 catches for 439 yards and three touchdowns. While those numbers don't exactly scream "Pro Bowl tight end," it's clear that he took a major step forward in 2020. Now that the Titans have moved on from Delanie Walker, Smith is the new starting tight end, and he's been working with Tannehill in a one-on-one setting this offseason to prepare.

"It's been very helpful, just building the chemistry and taking advantage of being in the same location," Smith said, via the Titans' official website. "We're just trying to get ahead and continuing to work on our craft so we can improve any way we can. It's been great we've been able to get that work in, and I'm sure it will put us in a good position during the season."

Smith figures to be one of Tannehill's top targets next season, and he has proven that he possesses both the versatility of a receiver and the ability to be a home-run hitter. Like many other players, Smith struggled when Marcus Mariota was under center, but his play improved in a big way once Tannehill was handed the starting job. In Tannehill's first start against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7, Smith showed his value as an effort guy who could be special after the catch. On third-and-14 early in the second half, Smith took a short underneath route 35 yards down the field.

Smith finished with 64 yards receiving on three catches -- which was his best outing of the season up to that point. The very next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Smith caught a season-high six passes for 78 yards and his first touchdown on the year.

Based off what he could do after the catch and how he could turn a screen play into a huge gain like a running back, the Titans actually lined him up at tailback a handful of times in 2019. Look at this 57-yard rush he made against the Houston Texans in Week 15:

Smith then had one of the biggest catches of his career during the Titans' divisional-round postseason upset win over the Baltimore Ravens. Tannehill hit Smith in the back corner of the end zone on third-and-goal, and the tight end made a ridiculous one-handed catch that's worth another look.

So while Smith may not be a top pick in fantasy football drafts come this season, he could wind up providing great value in the later rounds. He has incredible versatility as a tight end, impressive hands, good speed and now has the opportunity to make a major impact in Tennessee's offense.

"As a professional, you just want to continue to improve, and continue to build off any momentum that you had (from the previous season) just to get better," Smith said. "I am focused on getting better and better and improving and improving. Because if you are not in it to maximize your abilities, then I feel like you are in the wrong business.

"So, I am just trying to improve and get better and work on my craft, and I am having fun doing it. ... I am trying to be the best player I can be to help this team win as many games and win championships. For me, I'm tight end 1 now, and I'm just going to take advantage of the opportunity I have in front of me and continue to be a workhorse and do what is expected of me."
