Titans sign DT Jurrell Casey to four-year, $36 million extension
The Titans signed defensive tackle Jurrell Casey to a four-year extension on Wednesday. Casey led the team in sacks in 2013.
The Titans first-round pick from the 2011 NFL Draft might not be around next season, but their third-round pick will definitely be staying in Tennessee. Defensive tackle Jurrell Casey agreed to a four-year extension with the Titans on Wednesday, the team announced.
According to Casey's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, the four-year deal is worth $36 million overall and includes $20.5 million guaranteed.
"We are excited to come to an agreement on an extension with Jurrell," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said in a statement. "This is something Jurrell has earned not only with his play on the field but his work ethic as well. We appreciate Jurrell's professionalism through this process and look forward to many good years to come."
Casey was the 77th overall pick in 2011. The 24-year-old was taken 69 spots behind Jake Locker, the Titans first-round pick who was selected eighth overall. Locker is going into the final year of his rookie contract and the Titans are going to wait to see what he does in 2014 before signing him to a possible long-term deal.
As for Casey, he's been a pleasant surprise in Tennessee. In three seasons with the team, he's played in 47 of 48 regular season games, a number that includes 47 starts.
Casey racked up 10.5 sacks in 2013, that number led the Titans and was the second-highest total by any defensive tackle in the NFL last season.
