Tom Brady fined $10K for kick to Ed Reed

Despite apologizing to Ed Reed on the phone following his ninja kick in last Sunday’s AFC title game, the NFL has fined Patriots quarterback Tom Brady $10,000 for unnecessary roughness,'s Mike Freeman has confirmed. The news was originally reported by’s Ian Rapoport.

Reed most likely feels a little justice at the punishment, especially since the Ravens safety has been on the receiving end of a few fines as well.

"You know, I understand Brady's point," Reed told WJF-FX earlier this week. "Him protecting himself. I know he's a great player. I respect Brady and his game for all it stands for, and I know he's not a dirty player. And emotions get going in the game.

"I told him -- you know, we talked. We talked actually not too long ago, we talked on the phone. He actually reached out to me, texted me. I tried to text him back, but the message exploded after 12 seconds, so I had to call him ... and he's just apologized and what not. But I told him, 'You know, it's good, man.'"

For a guy who’s scheduled to make about $14 million next season, $10,000 is virtually nothing (it’d be like having to pay a fine of about $36 for a guy who makes $50,000 a year). But hey, Brady did something the league has deemed illegal, and he’ll have to pay for it.

Something Frank Gore knows all too well.
