Torrey Smith doesn't think Jim Caldwell made a huge difference

NEW ORLEANS -- There's been a lot made about the Ravens reinvented offense under Jim Caldwell as Baltimore's streaked to the Super Bowl. Caldwell has received plenty of praise for getting the Ravens rolling, and deservedly so.

Even the guy he replaced, Cam Cameron, called it a "brilliant" move to switch things up. But not everyone around the Ravens is, um, raving the way Cameron was last week: wideout Torrey Smith shrugged off the notion that Caldwell replacing Cameron had a huge impact on the Ravens.

"I don't know, I might be exaggerating a little bit or not giving you guys enough, but it's just a different guy calling the plays," Smith said.

So you're saying the coordinator change isn't a big deal?

"Yeah, it's just a different guy calling the plays," Smith said. "I can get my baby brother to call the plays and if we're out there blocking and catching and making throws, he might look like a genius. He might get a head-coaching job. But if we're out there and not playing well it doesn't matter who's calling the plays."

This isn't necessarily Smith throwing Caldwell under the bus or anything. I'm sure if and when he's asked if he supports Caldwell, he'll say yes. And he's correct, too: if everyone is dropping balls and throwing interceptions and not doing their job correctly, the Ravens won't score points and people will point to Caldwell.

That's how life works in an NFL offense. The way things also work involve Caldwell getting heaped with praise from all corners when the Ravens offense, under his guidance, makes it to the Super Bowl. Well, from almost all corners.
