Trent Richardson: Jim Brown doesn't 'know me from spic to span'

NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown might have a lot of fans himself (the G.O.A.T., according to Clark Judge, No. 2 on Pete Prisco's list), but he's no fan of new Browns running back Trent Richardson. Brown has referred to Richardson as "ordinary" and also said he sees nothing "outstanding" about T-Rich.

Richardson, speaking with ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley recently, shook off the comments, saying Brown doesn't know him and that he thinks the situation is laughable -- but also that he understands Brown's place in history.

"I laugh at the situation," Richardson said. "You don’t know me from spic to span. But he’s Jim Brown. He’s done a lot here, and I haven’t done anything yet. I have a lot to accomplish and big shoes to fill. When it comes down to it, I have to work and make sure I make him a believer. I haven’t done anything yet."

What else can you ask from a rookie? He's confident enough to shrug the situation off, but also respectful enough to give Brown a nod because of the great things he did in a Browns uniform.

"He has his own thoughts. That’s him being him," Richardson said. "I have no problem with it. I just wish the best of luck for him whatever he’s doing in life."

A lot of Brown's life lately has been taking shots at the Cleveland organization, which doesn't make him too different from the rest of the football-watching world. But if Richardson performs as cooly on the field as he does off, and if he realizes the potential he flashed at Alabama, there's a good chance the Hall of Famer will end up changing his tune about the newest Browns running back.
