Trent Williams fined $7,875 for hitting Richard Sherman in the face

After the Seahawks took down the Redskins on Sunday afternoon, things got a little chippy. Not surprisingly, Richard Sherman was involved and, not surprisingly, he annoyed Washington left tackle Trent Williams enough to attract some physical attention that cost the lineman $7,875 in the form of a league fine.

Sherman and Williams ran into each other in the middle of the field after the Seattle win, and Sherman's verbal barbs in Williams' direction upset Williams enough that he put a hand squarely in Sherman's grill.

The league confirmed the fine (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk) and Williams should consider himself lucky. He shoved another player in the face after a game on national television and got off light on a fine.

Williams' exchange with Sherman apparently went like this:

Williams: "I’m gonna punch you in your goddamn face."

Sherman: "Do it."

And Williams, not so politely, obliged.

The two parties later made up, but it's unlikely the NFL is all that concerned with whether they're cool with each other. However, perhaps that's what caused the NFL to go light on Williams' fine.
