Trey Anastasio wears Russell Wilson shirt during Phish concert
Phish lead singer Trey Anastasio wore a Russell Wilson t-shirt during the band's concert on Friday night.
You might recall a few months back when we noted that Phish lead singer and guitarist Trey Anastasio urged fans to chant "Wil-son!" during Seahawks games for quarterback Russell Wilson. (And then this happened.) There's a whole world of history behind the song and the fearsome foursome's been waiting 30 years to have a sports star worthy of the chant.
Phish's latest show took them within a few hours drive of Seattle and though I didn't correctly predict Wilson as the opener, Phish certainly obliged by playing the song ... with Trey wearing a customized Phish + Seahawks combo t-shirt:
In case you can't tell, the shirt says "Duh-Duh, Duh-Duh," a reference to the heavy E-notes played at the intro of the song "Wilson."
During the show, per JamBase.com, Trey emphasized again how much he'd love for fans to chant "Wil-son" at Russell during games and said they invited members of the Seahawks to the show Friday, but they couldn't come because of training camp.
The shirt, which you can kind of tell from this screenshot, had "Wilson" and a "3" on the back. It's the uber-combo to end all combos.
Oh and the show was, um, OK, if you like Phish -- they whipped out a rare cover with Skynard's "Ballad of Curtis Loew," busted out a "Moon Jam" in the middle of "Character Zero" (above) and generally crushed things.
So the moral of the story? The Seahawks need to make this happen. No one opposes it.If you're at a Seahawks game this year and can get a group to join in with you, definitely belt out "Wil-son!" when Russell talks the field. Who knows, you might enjoy myself yourself.
