With the seven current NFL head coaching vacancies comes a lot of speculation about the cast of characters who will be in the running for those jobs. On Thursday night, the Philadelphia Daily News reported that ESPN analyst and former Buccaneers and Raiders coach Jon Gruden had expressed interest in the Eagles job.
It makes for a great story; Gruden is a popular with fans, he has won a Super Bowl and his name comes up just about any time there's a coaching vacancy. But it sounds like there's a better chance the Eagles re-hire Chip Kelly.
This Jon Gruden interest in the Eagles stuff is ridiculous. Not happening and not discussed

Gruden confirmed as much to Howard Eskin of CBS Sports Radio's WIP.

People can certainly change their minds, but it's hard to envision a situation where Gruden prefers the Eagles' job to his current cushy set up. He reportedly makes north of $6 million -- which would put him among the top-10 coaching salaries -- as the color commentator for Monday Night Football, where there's considerably less pressure.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will continue their search; Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase appears to be the favorite, though there's still a long way to go.
