Cruz was promoting his new book, 'Out of the Blue.' (Comedy Central)

It seems that not even Jon Stewart has the clout to circumvent the NFL's rigorous licensing terms. Instead of welcoming Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz to the show with highlights from the team's championship season, Stewart was instead reduced to asking Cruz for an impromptu Heisman pose. (Welcome to basic cable, everybody!)

In addition to expected topics -- Cruz's impressive preseason as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2010 and winning the Lombardi Trophy in February, we were also treated to nuggets like "Do NFL uniforms really have zippers?," the fine distinction between "Cruz" and "boo," and, of course, an obligatory crack about the Jets ("They're tryin'!").

And in a show of true journalistic integrity, Stewart didn't even ask Cruz to salsa dance into the break.
