WATCH: Louis Nix prepares for NFL Draft with weighted pull-ups
When you're a projected first-round draft pick, you have to prepare rigorously. So 300-plus-pound Louis Nix wears a weighted vest to do pull-ups.
Former Notre Dame DT Louis Nix is currently a consensus first-round draft prospect by all writers on our CBSSports.com mock drafts. He is the second-ranked DT in this year's draft class and the No. 19 overall prospect in NFL DraftScout's 2014 prospect rankings.
Barring something unforeseen, Nix is on his way to the NFL.
So it stands to reason that he's preparing heavily for his shot at the big time, and in the video above, we get a peek at a portion of his workout routine prior to the combine.
Spending some time at EXOS in Phoenix, Nix participated in a training program that stressed more reps in faster succession. And, for good measure, some delayed-release pull-ups while wearing a weighted vest. If a weighted vest seems like overkill for a guy that already tips the scales at 300-plus pounds, well, overkill is probably the idea.
"I'm already a heavy guy," Nix said. "And then I gotta hang, you know, with 20-30 extra pounds on me. So you jump up and you have to hang until coach goes down from his 10-second countdown. It's the worst."
