Woman says Brandon Marshall punched her at nightclub; Bears 'were aware'
Brandon Marshall allegedly punched a woman outside a nightclub over the weekend, and the Bears say they "were aware" of the incident when they traded for Marshall.

Mike Freeman wrote on Tuesday afternoon that along with a talented wide receiver, the Bears were taking on a "great risk" in Brandon Marshall. That proved immediately true when reports surfaced late Tuesday that police were investigating an accusation from a woman in New York City that Marshall punched her in the face outside a nightclub over the weekend.
The Bears, who gave up two third-round picks for Marshall on Tuesday, claim that they "were aware" of the incident when they dealt for Marshall.
"Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend," Bears general manager Phil Emery said in a statement released by the team Wednesday morning. "We decided to move forward with the trade. We have high expectations for Brandon as a Bear."
The woman alleges that the incident took place outside of the nightclub Marquee in Manhattan, around 3:50 a.m. ET.
Marshall, traded from the Dolphins to the Bears for two third-round picks on Tuesday, is considered the definition of a "talented-but-troubled" wide receiver. The Bears are his third team before the age of 28, and in both Denver and Miami he's dealt with troubling off-field issues.
Last year, Marshall's wife was arrested after Marshall was stabbed at his home, in a very curious domestic incident.
There's no telling if this latest issue will lead to any sort of discipline from the league or from the Bears or from the police. But just having Marshall's name involved in an incident like this is a bad sign early on for the Bears. Or maybe a familiar one.
