XFL scores, updates, highlights in Week 4: Guardians beat Wildcats, BattleHawks hold on vs. Dragons
The Guardians earned a much-needed win on Saturday, while the BattleHawks kept rolling
Week 4 of the XFL season is underway. On Saturday, Luis Perez got the start at quarterback and led New York Guardians to a 17-14 win over the Los Angeles Wildcats. Perez showed tremendous poise in the pocket, extended plays with his feet and was able to make a number of clutch, high-level throws in the winning effort. He finished with a 69 completion percentage while throwing for 150 yards and a touchdown.
As for the Wildcats, Josh Johnson's club relied too much on big plays and never had a consistent offensive attack. The quarterback did put up some strong numbers, passing for 330 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had a critical interception late that gave momentum back to New York.
In the later contest on Saturday, Jordan Ta'amu and the St. Louis BattleHawks were able to handle the Seattle Dragons, 23-16, for their second consecutive win. Ta'amu was masterful throughout the afternoon, completing 74% of his throws for 264 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for an additional 63 yards.
On the other side of the field, the Dragons found themselves benching starter Brandon Silvers for B.J. Daniels, a move that ended up working in Seattle's favor. Daniels led the Dragons on two touchdown drives in the second half and was gashing the St. Louis defense with his rushing ability. On top of his 100 yards through the air and a passing touchdown, Daniels rushed for 84 yards on a 12.0 yards per carry average. While he made the case to be Seattle's starter going forward, he did throw a critical interception late that ultimately swung the game in the BattleHawks favor.
As we shift our focus to Sunday, we have Roughnecks star signal caller P.J. Walker heading into Dallas to take on Landry Jones and the Renegades, which is a matchup that promises to be a high-scoring affair. Meanwhile, D.C. quarterback Cardale Jones is looking to bounce back after a four-interception showing in Week 3 when the Defenders visit the Tampa Bay Vipers.

That's that. Jordan Ta'amu and the BattleHawks defeat the Seattle Dragons, 23-16. While they fall to 1-3 on the season, the Dragons may have found their quarterback in B.J. Daniels for the rest of the season. He was a big bright spot for them today.
That first down should wrap things up for the BattleHawks, who'll move to 3-1 on the season.
The BattleHawks are just imposing their will on the Dragons defense. Jordan Ta'amu is really showing us something special. Not only is St. Louis driving down the field, but they're also killing clock.
Turning point. BattleHawks safety Will Hill picks off Daniels, who was forcing the ball over the middle. Hill played it perfectly and was able to generate the game's first turnover.
Clear miscommunication on the part of the Dragons play calling there. Daniels chucked it deep to no one.
Oh boy! Daniels just COOKED Dexter McCoil on cut upfield. This kid can really make some magic with his legs. He's totally changed the competitiveness of this game.
I don't hate kicking the field goal there. Extends the lead to seven. Sure, the Dragons could go for up to nine points if they score a touchdown, but I take that risk this late in the game.
You cannot make a better throw than the one Ta'amu just made to Mumphery. Hit him in stride for a 43 yard gain. BattleHawks needed a big play like that.
Not sure what the reasoning is for trying for three points. 20-19 wouldn't do anything, right? I would have elected to go for one and make it a field goal game. After they failed to convert, they're now down four. I don't get it.
Similar to Ta'amu, Daniels is making fantastic decisions right now. Knows when to throw it and knows when to simply tuck and run. He's been real impressive so far. Likely will get the start next week if he keeps it up.
57 yard gain by Seattle on the first play of their drive. This is the Daniels difference. His threat to run had St. Louis shaken up and left Moore wide open. Should be a really exciting fourth quarter.
Taylor Russolino makes the chip shot field goal to bring the BattleHawks lead to 10. Gotta wonder what this game would look like if B.J. Daniels was in this game for the Dragons from the start.
Ta'amu can do no wrong right now. He's slicing up this Dragons secondary with his arm. He's making NFL caliber plays.
BattleHawks hammered with a number of penalties after some pushing and shoving following the Seattle touchdown. St. Louis appears a little rattled with Daniels under center.
Kenneth Farrow gets into the end zone for his first rushing touchdown of the season. Dragons a much more dynamic with Daniels in there and now it's resulting into points.
You can already see Seattle's offense being far more explosive with Daniels under center. St. Louis is defending them differently because of his mobility and the pace is much better for the Dragons.
That was probably Ta'amu's worst throw of the day. He had his receiver for the first down, but just put a little too much on it and it sailed over his head. First real miscue that I've noticed from him in this game. BattleHawks punting it away.
Daniels keeps the option and rushes for the first down. Clearly has much more burst than Silvers as a runner. Expect Seattle to really feature his rushing ability in this second half.
B.J. Daniels will start the second half at quarterback for the Dragons. Brandon Silvers heads to the bench.
