Cutting of Brady Quinn leaves Tarvaris Jackson as Wilson backup
by Marty Gitlin |

The battle for the right to take snaps in practice with the second team and hold the clipboard in games while watching Russell Wilson play in Seattle is over. The Seahawks have cut Brady Quinn in favor of Tarvaris Jackson, the Seattle Times is reporting. It appears the team will keep just two quarterbacks, which is becoming a trend in the NFL.

The Seahawks signed Quinn in April to back up Wilson, but then created a competition by signing Jackson. Quinn performed well in the preseason, but Jackson finished with the best passer rating in the NFL at 131.4. He tossed three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Quinn, who arrived in Cleveland as a ballyhooed prospect, has now been traded by the Browns and released by the Broncos and Seahawks.

Jackson stays with Bills
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

The Bills team website reports on Friday the Bills re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, and according to new head coach Doug Marrone the veteran signal caller will have a much better opportunity to see playing time for Buffalo in 2013. “I spoke with Ryan (Fitzpatrick) and Tarvaris (Jackson) and told them we will have an open competition at the quarterback position – similar to what we will do at all positions on our team heading into our offseason work,” said Marrone. Jackson was set to become a free agent in mid-March had he not been re-signed by the club. The third quarterback on Buffalo’s roster in 2012, Jackson never saw the field for the Bills last season as the previous coaching staff expressed concern that there was not enough practice time to get him live reps in the offensive system.
