Considering he was already a long shot to make the roster before he suffered an unspecified injury earlier this week, this transaction comes as little surprise. When healthy, he could find a job returning kickoffs or punts with a team needing special teams help.

Some reports said that Williams' Achilles was partially torn. Coach Gary Kubiak said the team would know more later in the day, per the Denver Post.

Williams announced on his Instagram account that he would miss the season.

Chiefs pare roster down to 53

The Chiefs have announced their final round of cuts and other moves to reach the league-mandated roster of 53 players.

Among the offensive players let go are fullback Jordan Campbell, wide receivers Fred Williams and Mark Harrison, guard Ricky Henry, tackle J'Marcus Webb and running back Charcandrick West.

The defensive players gone from the roster are safeties Jonathon Amaya and Malcolm Bronson, linemen Dominique Hamilton, Kyle Love and Kona Schwenke, linebackers Alonzo Highsmith, Devan Walker and Nico Johnson and cornerbacks Justin Rogers and DeMarcus Van Dyke .

The Chiefs have also placed Tyler Bray and Kyle Williams on IR and Mike Catapano on the non-football injury list.

Kyle Williams back from torn ACL

Chiefs receiver Kyle Williams, who tore the ACL in his left knee for the second time last year, was a full participant Monday as the team began a three-day camp for rookies and selected veterans, reports ESPN.com. Williams will vie to replace Dexter McCluster at slot receiver.

"The knee feels good," Williams told the website. "It feels stable. It feels like a solid knee. I feel like myself out there. I felt like last year when I came in I could help. I feel the same way this year."

Williams made 47 catches in four seasons with the 49ers.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday that he expects receiver Kyle Williams to be ready for the start of training camp. Reid is even hopeful Williams could participate in practices next week. 

Williams tore his ACL last season. He'll compete for playing time once he's on the field.

Bills defensive lineman Kyle Williams, who has been dealing with an Achilles injury for several weeks now and was listed as probable coming into the game, had his best effort of the season Week 8 at New Orleans. He recorded 1 1/2 sacks, giving him four overall, and had a season-high nine tackles, including six solo.

The four sacks put him just 1 1/2 away from his career high. He's averaging 4.8 tackles per game.
