Akeem Dent: Officially retires

Dent has retired from playing and joined the Houston coaching staff.

Dent played six NFL seasons, three with the Falcons and three with the Texans, recording 203 tackles and three passes defensed across 90 games. He hasn't played since 2016 and was unlikely to get another opportunity with a club in 2019. He'll now operate as a defensive assistant coach for the Texans.

Jaguars' Akeem Dent: Signing with Jacksonville

Dent notched only 11 tackles last season with the Texans. He'll serve as a depth linebacker in Jacksonville.

Texans' Akeem Dent: Cleared of concussion

Dent has been cleared from the league's concussion protocol.

Dent will be available for Week 1 against the Bears. He'll back up at inside linebacker, giving Brian Cushing and/or Benardrick McKinney a breather.

Texans' Akeem Dent: Still in concussion protocol

Dent (concussion) practiced fully Wednesday but is still in NFL's concussion protocol, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dent suffered the concussion in the team's preseason finale, and while it looks like he is on his way to being medically cleared by practicing, he will still need to clear protocol before he can see the field.

Dent was shaken up in Thursday's preseason finale against the Cowboys and has entered the NFL's mandatory concussion protocol, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dent is a depth player at inside linebacker, but will need to pass a baseline neurological exam before he can be medically cleared to return to practice.

Report: Texans to re-sign Akeem Dent to two-year deal

The Texans will re-sign veteran linebacker Akeem Dent to a two-year contract, according to a report from ESPN's Josina Anderson

Dent started seven games a year ago for the Texans in his first season with Houston. He was originally selected in the third round of the 2011 draft by the Falcons. The Falcons traded Dent to the Texans for backup quarterback T.J. Yates in 2014. 

In his four-year career, Dent has totaled 174 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks.

Texans list Andre Johnson, Arian Foster as probable for Sunday

The Texas listed wide receiver Andre Johnson (concussion) and running back Arian Foster (hip) as probable for Sunday’s game against the Ravens.

Both Johnson and Foster were able to fully participate in Friday’s practice.

The following players are also listed as probable: Tyson Clabo, Brian Cushing, Akeem Dent, Kareem Jackson, Johnathan Joseph, Whitney Mercilus, DeVier Posey and Jeff Tarpinian .

The Texans listed Garrett Graham (ankle), Mike Mohamed (concussion), Tom Savage (knee) and Xavier Su’a-Filo (back) as out.

The typically lengthy injury report released Friday by the Texans for their Sunday game against Tennessee has confirmed that linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) will not play. Neither will cornerback Kareem Jackson (knee). Linebacker Akeem Dent (neck) is questionable.

The other players on the report are probable. All but one of 18 players listed by the Texans as probable for their Thursday night game against Indianapolis was a full participant at Wednesday practice. The exception is cornerback Johnathan Joseph (knee), who was limited.

The other defensive probables are cornerback A.J. Bouye (groin), safeties Eddie Pleasant (ankle) and D.J. Swearinger (elbow), linebackers Jeff Tarpinian (thigh), Brian Cushing (knee) and Akeem Dent (shoulder), and defensive linemen Tim Jamison (groin), Ryan Pickett (knee) and J.J. Watt (thigh).

The Texans have listed nine players as probable Week 5.

Duane Brown, Brian Cushing, Akeem Dent, Damaris Johnson, Ben Jones, Johnathan Joseph, Shane Lechler, Chris Myers and D.J. Swearinger should all be able to go during the contest.

Defensive end Tim Jamison comes into the game listed as questionable. He's dealing with a groin injury and was limited in practice Friday.

As expected, the Texans have ruled out rookie outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee) and safety Shiloh Keo (calf) for their Week 3 game against the host Giants.

Most of the other players are their extensive injury report are probable, though featured back Arian Foster (hamstring), offensive lineman Ben Jones (ankle/knee) and safety D.J. Swearinger (elbow) are questionable.

The probables are linebacker Akeem Dent (hamstring), tight ends Garrett Graham (ankle) and C.J. T.J. Yates traded for Akeem Dent

The Texans traded quarterback T.J. Yates, who was believed to be waived but apparently not, to the Falcons for linebacker Akeem Dent. The trade was announced on Thursday. 

Yates, a former fifth-round pick of the Texans, gives the Falcons some needed experience and depth at quarterback behind Matt Ryan. Playing over 13 games, including a five-week stint as the starter in 2011, the Georgia native has 1,100 passing yards and three touchdowns with a rush score and six interceptions and four fumbles lost. 

Dent is a former third-round pick of the Falcons. In 47 games (20 starts), Dent totaled 136 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and three passes defensed.

Report: Akeem Dent likely to undergo surgery

Falcons linebacker Akeem Dent, bothered by an ankle injury throughout the season, is heading for a second opinion and likely will undergo surgery, reports It would be a minor cleanup procedure, the report said.

Dent had 51 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 15 games.

Four questionable Falcons should go Week 13

Falcons LB Akeem Dent, DE Malliciah Goodman, S Zeke Motta and LB Sean Weatherspoon are active Week 13 against the Bills.

All four players were questionable coming into the game. They were all able to get through limited practice Friday.
