Spillman has long been a special teams standout and a highly-regarded gunner on punt coverage units. He spent the 2014 season with the Cowboys after having stints with the Chargers and 49ers.
Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens (ankle) and defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford (illness) are active for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Lions after both players were listed as questionable to play.

Charges against Spillman were never filed due to "insufficient evidence." At the time, Spillman denied the charges. He is currently being investigated on a different sexual assault charge. Spillman has played while the investigation is ongoing.

49ers defensive back C.J. Spillman underwent surgery according to a post from his Twitter account that included a photo of him in a sling. The Sacramento Bee says it's a second surgery on his right hand.
