Mike DeVito: Announces retirement

DeVito announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.

DeVito ends his nine-year career having played six seasons for the Jets and his final three for the Chiefs. Last year, DeVito posted a career-best three sacks in only 13 games, but his highest tackling total came back in 2010, when he posted 59 stops for New York.

Mike DeVito agrees to pay cut with Chiefs

Chiefs defensive end Mike DeVito agreed to a pay cut to help the team with its salary-cap situation. 

DeVito's original deal cost the Chiefs $5.4 million against the cap. His restructuring reduced that figure to $2.9 million, according to Pro Football Talk and the Kansas City Star

DeVito's new contract is structured so that he has the opportunity to earn back most of his pay cut through incentive bonuses.

DeVito's 2014 season ended in Week 1 when he tore his Achilles. During his eight-year career, DeVito has amassed 231 tackles and is scheduled to make $4 million in 2015.

Chiefs' Andy Reid has 'special place in my heart' for S Eric Berry

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters at the NFL combine that safety Eric Berry is still in the midst of his battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Reid was diagnosed with the cancer in December, ending his season early.

“He’s a stud … special place in my heart for a guy like that,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star.

Reid also gave updates on linebacker Derrick Johnson and defensive end Mike DeVito, saying both players are in great shape. Both suffered Achilles tendon tears in 2014.

Johnson and DeVito had MRI's taken on their legs Monday which confirmed the initial diagnoses. They will both likely be placed on injured reserve in the coming days.

Fisher, Asamoah and DeVito are all starters, so the team will be missing some talent on the line this week.

Listed as questionable on that side of the ball is end Tyson Jackson (abdomen). Fellow end Mike Catapano (ankle) is probable, as are defensive back Sanders Commings (shoulder) and linebacker Derrick Johnson (wrist).
